Development of trauma-informed training resources to enhance law enforcement engagement with non-offending family members of child sexual abuse perpetrators

Development of trauma-informed training resources to enhance law enforcement engagement with non-offending family members of child sexual abuse perpetrators

We recognise the importance of supporting non-offending family members experiencing the impacts of child sexual exploitation and abuse in trauma-informed ways.

Following stakeholder consultation and a limited tender process, we have contracted the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children Australia Ltd (ICMEC Australia) to develop training resources to enhance law enforcement engagement with non-offending family members of child sexual abuse perpetrators. This falls under Measure 10 of the First National Action Plan to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse.

The training resources will enhance law enforcement engagement with non-offending family members, with a focus on trauma-informed approaches and referral pathways for support.

The training resources will complement a new National Service for Non-Offending Family Members of Child Sexual Abuse Perpetrators. We will establish this through a separate grant process. The training resources will be developed in consultation with Australian law enforcement agencies and informed by lived experience.
