Keeping Our Kids Safe
The Keeping Our Kids Safe resources support organisations working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and communities to implement the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations in a culturally safe way.
Developed in partnership with SNAICC — National Voice for our Children (SNAICC) and the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA), these resources apply an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural lens to support organisations to create environments where children and young people feel safe, respected and supported.
Cultural safety means more than the absence of racism or discrimination. It is about the positive recognition and celebration of culture, identity and community. In culturally safe, child safe organisations, children, young people and families feel respected, empowered and safe to be themselves.
Over 100 individuals and organisations representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities, and young people, as well as non-Indigenous organisations servicing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities from all over Australia, had a say in shaping these resources.
The resources are for any organisation that engages with First Nations children and young people.
