A Guide to support children and young people’s understanding of and engagement with the National Strategy. It assists children and young people to understand child safety and child sexual abuse, and to recognise the signs of child sexual abuse. It also provides practical ways for them to keep themselves and their friends safe.

Language is important in media reporting. Child sexual abuse is always the fault of the perpetrator, and victim blaming – including due to inadvertent use of poor language – is never acceptable.

The Summary of the National Strategy and its Action Plans is an overview of the National Strategy, the First National Action Plan and the First Commonwealth Action Plan. The Summary provides readers with the documents’ key contents and core messages.

The Guide provides practical advice to organisations about how to develop, implement and maintain a complaint-handling system that prioritises child safety and promotes the rights of children and young people to have a voice in decisions that affect them. 

This resource includes ten steps designed to help adults understand their role, actions they should take, and how they can support children and young people to make a complaint.

This resource is intended to support organisations engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to implement the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations in a culturally safe way.

Every day you go to, and talk to, organisations, like your school, sports club, or arts group. Sometimes something might happen at the organisation that makes you feel unhappy or you may feel uncomfortable or unsafe. When this happens you have the right to speak up and tell someone your problem.

The National Principles for Child Safe Organisations set out a nationally consistent approach to promoting a culture of child safety and wellbeing within organisations. The principles give effect to the child safe standards that were recommended by the Royal Commission and bring attention to general child safety and wellbeing issues.
